The showerbuddy incident...
Okay, so today started off absolutely amazing. We had so much fun hanging out with some of our favourite people at Outback Splash. We even managed to leave at a decent time, keeping our special needs kids in mind and all the fatigue and everything that comes with that!
Anyway, we planned to go to BurgerFreak for dinner, so the plan was to head home for showers first.
Kaedyn had a little accident in the car, so we got him straight onto his ShowerBuddy to get him cleaned up with Phil. I was on car duty, making sure everything was sorted and the car didn’t smell like wee. All was good!
I hopped in the shower after that, mid-shampoo, when I thought I heard Dante screaming at an online game. Turns out, that wasn’t it.
Phil was finishing up with Kaedyn and pushing the ShowerBuddy over the threshold from the tiles to the carpet. That’s when it became apparent that the sliding clip that usually secures the commode hadn’t caught properly. It slipped back about 2 inches. We usually have to give it a little nudge over that threshold, but nothing major. Well, those 2 inches, combined with Kaedyn’s body weight, sent it pummeling to the ground, flat on its back, with Kaedyn still in it.
Phil tried to catch it, Dante came running, but it still hit the ground. Luckily, it wasn’t with enormous force. Kaedyn’s back took most of the hit, and his head only got a slight knock. Phil ended up with a dent in his leg trying to stop it. He had to unclip Kaedyn from the unit and it took a few attempts to get him up, but he did it!
I came out to find the house in mayhem and Kaedyn crying, so I threw on some clothes and went to check on him. A few hugs later, and some investigating showed that the clip wasn’t springing anymore, which is why it didn’t catch.
We gave it some time, and after Kaedyn assured us he was more scared than hurt (totally fair!), he said, “Let’s still go for dinner.” So we did — because there’s no standing between him and a big schmack!
